What to Wear on your Summer Vacation, Staycation & Days Off - Closet52

It’s finally vacation time. Over the last two+ years, we’ve been cooped up and quarantined and we’ve come to realize how much good a vacay really does and how much we’ve missed them. We’ve always known about their benefits, but now because many of us are/were working from home for too many hours a day, we’ve learned how important a good work/life balance is. And being denied these annual trips during the pandemic makes us all the more eager to get away now.

Did You Know:

Vacations Reduce Stress

Going on a vacation dramatically reduces your stress level. And when you actually take a break, you learn quickly how a good work/life balance decreases the effects of stress and signs of burnout.

Vacations Improve Your Productivity

Working non-stop with no time off leads to exhaustion, impatience, poor decision making and even illnesses. Studies show after a vacation or a break, many become more energized and have a more positive outlook on life and work.

Vacations Enable Creativity

Relaxing provides you with time to refresh and recharge your brain.

Vacations Make You Happier

Another recent study showed that taking time off improves your happiness level. Planning the vacation caused anticipatory delight that ranks almost as high on the happiness meter as taking the trip itself. After returning home, your contentment is remains elevated for a while.

Vacations Open Your Mind to New Ideas

Whether you are going to the beach or to a museum, time off from work gives you a moment to reflect and open yourself to new ideas. When leave your work aside, you can often see a problem from a different angle. Learning about different cultures in this country or another, could likely change your perspective on your own life when you return home and back to your job.

To sum up, vacations and staycations are good for your body, mind and those around you. That’s when we come in. Let us help you get dressed for your trip or activities, whether it’s to far reaches of the globe or just a night out in your own town.

Yes, That Dress is Washable!

Now that we’ve gotten you psyched for some time away or maybe just time off, it’s time to focus on what you’ll be wearing. We’ve put together a guide of what to wear for different travel destinations and activities.

Almost all of our dresses are wrinkle-resistant. And none of them require dry cleaning. That is a great perk! Pop your dresses out of your luggage, hang them up and whatever tiny creases you see will fall out naturally. Need to wash them? If your hotel doesn’t offer laundry services, no problem. Our dresses are hand washable! That’s right. You can wash them out yourself and wear again. This means you can pack less. You can easily wear the same dress a few times with a different scarf, hat, jewelry or sunglasses. Be your own smart stylist and nobody will be the wiser (except you.) And one packing hint: roll your dresses. They’ll take up less space and ensure they arrive at your destination wrinkle-free.

What to Wear on a Cruise

Cruises have different dress codes from day to night and from poolside to theme parties. On Captain’s Night, women look forward to wearing fancier dresses than other nights aboard the ship. It offers an opportunity to show off chicness. We love halter dresses when sailing as they hit the right note of casual elegance and picture-perfect style.

What to Wear to the Beach

Granted, a dress isn’t the first thing you think about wearing to the beach. But consider this, a babydoll dress makes a great swimsuit cover-up during the day, and then with a change of shoes and jewelry, it’s perfect for the evening at a casual restaurant. The sheer versatility of one dress serving two purposes saves on the amount you have to spend, pack and carry. Trifecta!

May we suggest: Ruffled Babydoll Dress

What to Wear on a Tropical Vacation

Slip into high-heeled sandals or flats (depending on the day’s or night’s activities), choose a color that outshines the sun and you’ll become a best dressed tourist. Ruffles are trend-right details this season. During the day you can hit the island’s best attractions and shops then at night you’ll be perfectly attired for dining al fresco. Look for lightweight fabrics, not only because they work when the temperature is soaring, but they are so easy to pack.

May we suggest: Ruffle Hem Dress

What to Wear on a Mountain Vacation

Summer in the mountains is a pure delight. Glorious temps in the daytime and then a slight chill is welcomed after sunset. If a cookout and marshmallows at the campfire are on your plate, sleeves are welcomed, as much as mosquitoes aren’t. Choose a dress that’s not only comfortable but one that’s cut a little looser, making it easy to move around.

May we suggest: Dotted Tiered Dress

What to Wear to the Pool

Think different. Think cover-up. A lightweight chambray dress makes for a stylish cover over your suit. It’s cool, comfortable and reflects your own style. When you’re done swimming, you’ll be dressed for lunch at the sidewalk café. Sneakers, sandals or flip-flops look great against a casual design.

What to Wear to the City

Whether you are exploring an American or an international city, you should consider versatile dresses that will complement your long days of touring. From local amusement parks to ginormous theme parks, wearing a dress with stretch is a smart choice. It’s a cool concept that keeps you looking great as the mercury rises. What to Wear to a Car Race

Really anything goes on race day, so we recommend wearing whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. You’ll see many women in jeans, but you’ve got more style than that, so why not step it up? A cute, casual, loose-fitting dress would look great whether you are watching from “the club” or you’re in the stands, where it gets hot in the sun. Pick a dress that will look good on social media. Pictures last forever. Plus, you never know who you'll see at the Speedway, so make a stylish statement, and don’t forget the sunscreen.

What to Wear to a Fair

We take “Fair” style seriously. Whether you’re going to your State Fair, a County Fair or a local Street Fair, the question remains… shouldn’t you wear a dress that marries your own personal style with an easy design so you can walk around in comfort all day long? Of course. Maxis are in and they are both feminine and comfortable, which is a great combination when all you have on your mind is funnel cakes and Ferris wheels.

What to Wear to a Destination Wedding

You’ve gotten to one of our specialties. Weddings. We want you to be the best dressed guest! But the type of dress depends on the location of the wedding. Is it on a tropical beach? Is it at a European castle? Is it at a Sonoma winery? Think about what the weather could be like? Will it be outside and could it possibly rain? (Hmm…maybe get a matching umbrella). The shoes you pick will depend on if you’ll be walking in sand, in grass or on a stone pathway.

• An American winery offers casual grandeur. Look for a dress with simple styling that’s got refined luxury.

• A European destination is all about old-world sophistication. We love retro florals this season. They are subdued and elegant.

• A beach wedding calls for bold color so you will stand out against the sun and sand.

We hope our guide will give you some suggestions on what to buy, and what to wear for different vacations and activities. Looking for the right dress is sometimes tricky, but by picturing what you will need it for in advance is smart. A versatile style will save on your budget or allow you to buy another.

Styling is also important. Of course, you can wear more than one pair of shoes with a dress. Same for jewelry. When you change them, the whole look of the dress changes and can easily go from casual to chic.

The most important lesson is to take some time off. Whether you travel far or stay local, give yourself a break… but look good doing it. We would love to see what dresses you wear on your travels or activities. Just hashtag #LoveCloset52 on to your social media post and have fun!
